About Katherine MacDonald
Before starting my own practice, I was an associate with a senior family lawyer in Newmarket, Ontario. Here, I gained significant experience of advocacy and negotiation in matters related to child custody, access, support and property division. I graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and articled with Legal Aid Ontario with rotations at the Refugee Law Office, the Family Law Service Centre (Toronto). After being called to the Ontario Bar, I was a Staff Lawyer with Legal Aid in Milton, Ontario, where I worked as Duty Counsel, providing both in-court representation, as well as advice and document drafting assistance to self-represented litigants in child protection and domestic matters.
I am on the Board of Directors of the Family Lawyers Association, as well as a member of the Family Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association and the Refugee Lawyers Association.
Separation is a difficult time for everyone. There can be complex legal, financial and emotional issues when a marriage or common-law relationship ends, especially when children are involved. With an empathetic yet practical approach, I will help you understand your options and make optimal decisions. I will use my expertise in creative problem solving to move your case towards resolution in a way that keeps your legal costs down. I am settlement focused and believe that parties are generally better off when they can resolve their family law issues outside of the courtroom. However, if litigation is necessary, I will be a strong advocate for you.
I provide calm, clear and practical legal advice to protect your interests and those of your dependents.
