Merrick Siegel has appeared in family, civil and criminal matters, including jury trials, at all levels of court. He was called to the Bar with Honours.
He has been practicing more than 30 years in the court. He has appeared numerous times at all levels of court: Supreme Court of Canada Ontario Court of Appeal Ontario Divisional Court Federal Court of Appeal Federal Court Superior Court of Justice - criminal, civil and family, including jury trials Ontario Court of Justice - criminal, civil and family He did FRO work part time.
Mr. Siegel was appointed a part time Crown Attorney by Order-in-Counsel, after having been approved by the head Crown of Ontario and other approvals. He has acted as Crown in the Toronto, Brampton, and Newmarket courts.
Not long ago he completed a criminal trial in the Superior Court of Justice and the client, who was charged with severely sexually molesting his young daughter (10 or so separate counts) was acquitted. His life was saved.
Prior to that, he completed another similar case in the Superior Court of Justice and that client was also acquitted.
Mr. Siegel has successfully acted as counsel in a great many other types of cases where the client was acquitted (found not guilty) of his or her charges.
Mr. Siegel has successfully completed many family and civil cases as well. For example, he participated in successfully fighting against the Children's Aid Society in a reported case that went through the Ontario Court of Justice, Superior Court of Justice and Divisional Court. The case involved a lot of legal research and preparation of documents. The case was completed entirely successfully. (We won. The clients were very happy.)
