Liam McAlear was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2003. He represents clients before the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Justice and various administrative tribunals, including the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. His practice is restricted to criminal, immigration, family, civil and commercial litigation.
Liam completed his articles at a top tier litigation firm in downtown Toronto. He received his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Ottawa, where he was Senior Editor of the Law Review and Civil Division Leader of the Community Legal Clinic. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Modern Languages and Literatures from Trent University while also studying for a summer at the University of Laval in Quebec, a year at the University of Granada in Spain and a year at the University of Nantes in France.
Liam is fluent in English, French and Spanish. He enjoys serving a diverse client base and brings a broad range of experience to his practice. He has taught ESL in Spain and the Republic of Korea; worked at Na-Bolom in Chiapas, Mexico; lived with the Inuit in Arviat, Nunavut; and participated in the Canada World Youth Quebec/Rwanda Exchange. Liam brings mindfulness to the practice of law and everything he does. He is a student of Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh and a member of the Mindfulness Practice Community of Toronto.
Liam is committed to public service and access to justice. He is on the Legal Aid Ontario family per diem duty counsel panel and the criminal and immigration and refugee panels. Liam plays an active role in the legal profession and has chaired a number of programs as a member-at-large with the Ontario Bar Association.
